Donor Spotlights

Volunteers of America – Western Nebraska would like to take a moment to recognize those who have donated to our organization. These donors have provided help, hope, and compassion to our mission and our community.

Here is our “Donor Spotlight”:

Carroll & Ruth Dolson

Carroll Dolson currently lives in Salt Lake City, Utah with his wife, Ruth, and although Carroll may live in another state, he still has ties to his birthplace of Oshkosh.

Carroll is familiar with Western Nebraska and rural areas. He was born in Garden County. Attended school at Chadron State College where he earned two undergraduate degrees and met his wife, Ruth.  After graduating, he and Ruth moved to Salt Lake City, where he began a short teaching career. He taught mathematics to advanced students at a new high school. After a few years of teaching, he began a career in the insurance and investment field. After 39 years in this field, he claims not to be smart enough to do anything else. This isn’t entirely true, in addition to his two undergraduate degrees, he has gone on earning two more degrees specific to his line of work. He believes in developing himself and his abilities.

The Dolsons still frequent this area as they have a home in Oshkosh. Carroll says that he sees the need for assistance in Garden County. He feels that he and Ruth can help a lot of families through donations to Volunteers of America  - Western Nebraska, specifically to the Food Bank. The Dolsons don’t just donate food though, they bring a wide variety of items in the trailer that they tow all the way from Utah. These items include towels, school supplies, cleaning supplies, and even baby clothes.

Carroll and Ruth give to a lot of various charitable organizations, but really like giving to Volunteers of America  - Western Nebraska and Garden County, because  it seems as if smaller communities are sometimes overlooked in terms of assistance. In larger, metropolitan communities there are more opportunities for giving and receiving. Giving is a very important idea to Carroll, so much in fact he views it as an obligation. He says that he and his family have been blessed and believe that by giving themselves freely, their blessings increase.

Carroll and Ruth, have one daughter, Carla and four grandchildren.

A very sincere thank you to the Dolsons and their giving. Our community and organization is truly blessed because of you.
