In 1945 a Lewellen benefactor, Mary Beard, held the first of her birthday parties. Rather than receiving birthday gifts, she chose to give birthday gifts at the birthday party. Following her death on May 25th, 1978, Volunteers of America Western Nebraska chose to continue the tradition of providing school supplies, money and refreshments to children in the community.

Each year Volunteers of America has an annual tea and style show that is held at the Oshkosh City Auditorium. This style show is organized in efforts to raise funds for the preschool that serves the children of Garden County as well as provide a fun filled afternoon for women in the area.

Our Annual Ash Hollow Pageant will be returning again this year, along with a 5K run on Saturday.

The National Diabetes Prevention Program classes meet weekly for 16 weeks and are then followed by monthly meetings. Each meeting begins with a weigh in and has a one hour class on nutrition or exercise. The program is geared toward preventing diabetes, but diabetics are welcome to join.

The 9Health Fair recently held at the Oshkosh Elementary School was a great success! There were a total of 273 people who participated in the March 2015 blood draw and the 9Health Fair events.
